Admission Policy
In accordance with the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) Guidelines and our own risk assessment we enforce the following policy.
Children under the age of 10 years old must be accompanied into the pool at all times by a responsible adult, unless they can successfully pass a 'Competent to Swim' test (SwimSafe8.9).
Children under the age of 8 years old must be accompanied into the pool at all times by a responsible adult, on an adult to child ratio of no more than 1:2.
Children under the age of 4 years must be accompanied into the pool by a responsible adult on a ratio of 1:1. However the ratio remains 1:2 in the event any child under 4 is wearing a suitable buoyancy aid.
Buoyancy aids accepted under this policy are those that fully support the child's weight in the water and remain secure in and out of the water, e.g. armbands or a float suit.
Buoyancy aids that are hand held are not considered appropriate.
SwimSafe8.9
The scheme aims to assist children in the enjoyment of our swimming facilities and is linked directly to our admission policy. The scheme aims to provide a structure which will allow those children who are competent swimmers but who would be restricted access through our admission policy to enjoy the benefits of swimming.
The test is readily available on request, and upon completion a card will be awarded to the successful child. Each time the child attends the pool, they must produce their 'Swim Safe Card'. The Card may be used at either Hartsdown Leisure Centre or Ramsgate Swimming Pool.
Please note that a photo will be required for the card and in some cases proof of age will be needed.
