Come on Board and be part of the Force

Thanet Leisureforce Limited is a registered company under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act (1965 - 1978).  Our registered office is at Margate Winter Gardens and our head office is in Hawley Street, Margate.

Three of our current co-optees will step down in December 2005 after serving five years on the Board.  Three co-optees are therefore sought to fill these seats.  Board members are required to give of their time voluntarily and shall receive no remuneration or repayment of expenses in respect of attendance at Management Board meetings.

Co-opted members are expected to attend at least 4 Board meetings a year held quarterly of approximately 2 hours duration.  In addition they will need to be available for discussion of urgent business between meetings when the need arises.

The Executive Committee therefore seek applications from people interested in serving as co-optees to the Board.

The objects of our Society are to provide the general public in the District of Thanet and its environs facilities for culture, recreation and leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare and to advance the education of the public in leisure activities.

We operate and manage the following facilities for Thanet District Council:

The Winter Gardens

Hartsdown Leisure Centre

Ramsgate Swimming Pool

Ramsgate Sports Centre

Fit Force in Hartsdown Park

Northdown House

Outdoor Sports Pitches

Water Safety

Beach huts and chalets

In addition we also operate and manage the Maison Dieu for Dover District Council and Seagulls children's day care nursery in Margate in partnership with Kent County Council and SureStart.

The Society is a non-profit distributing organisation which essentially means that it must plough back all surpluses made into the improvement of services and facilities managed by it and for the continuation and development of the Society.

Members of our Society are drawn from qualifying employees only, who on admission to the Society are issued a share of the nominal value of £25 each.  The shares are non-transferable and carry no right of interest, dividend nor bonus and are forfeited and cancelled on cessation of membership.  A member shall hold one share only in the Society.

The Society is governed by a Management Board comprising 6 members of the Society elected each year at the AGM of the Society by its membership, plus the Managing Director ex officio plus no more than 5 persons co-opted who are considered able to contribute to the effective management of the Society whether or not they be a member of the Society, provided no more than 5 such appointments are made between one AGM and the next.

If you are interested to receive further details, person specification, rules of the Society and a formal application form please contact Janet Heard, Company Secretary on 01843 227959 (between 9-5 weekdays).

Applications need to be received by the Secretary of the Society by 18 November 2005.

It is intended to interview short listed applicants late November, early December 2005 in order that successful applicants can be appointed and attend their first Board meeting in Spring 2006.

The Society is looking to fill these vacancies on an equal opportunities basis.
